    One reason the pole exploration might have been abandoned is because it is so cold down there. The cost and danger to life would make exploration, investment, and development not safe or practical. What do you think?

    Mattskers, I highly doubt that every nation would abandon the continent because of cold weather conditions. Numerous nations had been down there for decades, and technically, they are still down there today. What has changed is the Antarctic treaty, when bans any corporation from any country…ever. – MS
